The Splendor Of Songdo!

On my maiden trip to Korea, Songdo has been a great host to me for the last two days. And I would like to thank the city and pay it a tribute through this photo-blog.

Songdo is practically a suburb of Incheon and is built on 600 hectares of land which had been reclaimed from the Yellow Sea. Located nearly 60 kilometres from Seoul, Songdo is Korea's largest private real estate development and is positioned as a smart city.

Songdo is also being positioned as a sustainable city - 40% of Songdo's area is reserved for green spaces, including Central Park that covers 40 hectares. The city also has 26 kilometres of bicycle tracks. It has also developed a smart waste collection system that eliminates the need for trash trucks.

Songdo also has the distinction of being the second city in the world to have its major buildings meeting green standards (LEED's requirements). On this count it ranks second to after Greensburg, Kansas.

In a few years, all these empty pieces of land will get developed...

...but for now the layout looks pretty neat!

The NEAT Tower - at 68 floors, it is one of Korea's tallest buildings...

A restaurant on Central Park built in the design of a Hanok - a traditional Korean house...

I was a bit surprised to know that Psy's 2012 K-Pop superhit "Gangnam Style" was shot here on Central Park...

I would love to stay up here clicking a lot more pics, but I cannot miss my flight tomorrow. So it is time to sleep...
