Discovering Marrakech... Part I

Today is the day I discover Marrakech and what it's all about. I have been out since morning walking around the old city, the medina and have tried to capture the city at its own pace, as the city-dwellers experience here, everyday...

Passing by a shop selling exotic spices, some of which I am told are endemic to the region, especially, the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, which have been home to the Berbers for ages...

Fresh confectioneries that remind me of our mithais back home...

Beautiful flowers on sale...

A street in the medina...

There is a certain quaintness, an unspeakable charm of being here in the medina...

And it was the Moroccan independence day or the Eid Al Istiqulal yesterday...

And that's quite a few shops are decked with the Moroccan flags...

My guide leads the way through the cobbled pathways...

Rugs on sale...

And so is freshly butchered lamb. I bet the lamb I had here was the best ever - extremely flavourful and succulent...

A variety of olives on sale, and I must say, the Moroccan olives are absolutely yummy...

Fresh vegetables...

Pickled olives and peppers...

And some more yummy stuff...

Fresh ginger and fruit...

...and nothings the aroma of freshly baked bread!

And these lanes in the market are busy, throbbing with an immense energy...

And some amazing lamb sausages, which are meaty, spicy, exquisite and delicate...
