An Evening At Chez Ali...

So finally, I am here in Marrakech, a historical city that has existed for over a thousand years. And as I checked in at the hotel, I was informed that I could join in for a traditional Moroccan cultural experience in the evening, at a place called Chez Ali, in an area called Ouahat Sidi Brahim, located on the outskirts of the city.
Since the next few days are expected to be action-packed with meetings, I gladly agreed!
After resting for about 2 hours, off I went to Chez Ali!

A traditional welcome song being performed...

Marrakesh has been quite a melting pot - it was home to the ancient Berbers, but the region's attractive trade and agriculture brought in the Bedouins, the Touaregs, the Jews and many others...

Traditional Berber performances...

Indeed, Morocco has had a rich cultural tradition and that is evident from the performances...

We were ushered into a huge tent for our dinner...

And as the food is served, performances begin...

And finally, the food comes - a lamb soup...

Chicken tagine...

It was pretty good...

Couscous with vegetables...
We ended the dinner with some fruit and Moroccan mint tea. Overall, I found the food quite underwhelming...

Moving outdoors for performances...

Berber horsemen...

After the underwhelming dinner, the Berber horsemen and women stole the show, which was quite exciting...

And it was time to call it a day!
