Postcards From Enchanting Engelberg...

Today's excursion takes us to Mount Titlis, for which we pass through a lovely and small town, Engelberg. Located in the canton of Obwalden, georgraphically, Engelberg is a part of the Urner Alps.

Our journey began at about 0900 hours in Lucerne. After a rather heavy breakfast at our hotel, we walked down the Bundesplatz to catch our train to Engelberg from where we were to head to Mount Titlis.

An assortment of fresh fruit, crunchy raw vegetables and strawberry yogurt...

And then a ham-pepper-cheese omelette with hash browns, sauteed vegetables, tomatoes, bacon, ham and pork sausages, alongwith artisanal bread and tomato juice...

We discovered this Vespa scooter as we walked down to the Bahnof...

The train journey to Engelberg took about an hour or so. Engelberg station is quite a small but charming station, and unlike the rest of Switzerland, I found the staff here quite friendly. The air was cool and crisp, but it was a sunny day and I was sure we were going to have a lot of fun today.

Engelberg is quite a small town, it has a population of just about 4000, with people of German ethnicity accounting for nearly 85%. In the Middle Ages, Engelberg was known for its Benedictine monastery, the Engelberg Abbey. It was only in the 1800s when tourism picked up over here and today Engelberg is a leading mountain resort both for summer and winter tourism. In fact Engelberg is quite a popular destination for Bollywood film-makers.

Wasn't Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge shot here?

At the Engelberg cable car station, a good kilometre away from Engelberg station...

And we begin our journey to Mount Titlis...

A view fit to be captured for a postcard...
