The Beauty Of The Desert... Part I

After feasting on the worldly delights of the world at Dubai Mall and checking out the aquarium, we headed back to the hotel for a decently long siesta, which is a definite luxury. And as late afternoon set in, we were picked up at the hotel to head down to a desert conservation reserve on the outskirts of metropolitan Dubai for a desert safari, chasing the dunes...

And we entered the conservation area...

We started on the gentle dunes, all we could see was desert for miles and miles, with no sign of any human inhabitation anywhere close by, who would that the urban sprawl of Dubai is just 30 kilometres behind us...

And there is life in the desert...

And the dunes get steeper as we go dune-bashing in the 4WD with an extremely skilled Lebanese driver. The routes are pre-identified but unmarked, and the drivers know their way. We were driving up and down the dunes in what was like an endless tummy-churning rollercoaster ride...

There emerges an Emirati wearing a thawb (ثَوب‎‎) quite literally out of nowhere...

The tyre-marks on the dunes...

There were 5 passengers in our 4WD besides the driver in the car, and despite the rollercoaster nobody puked. As we all shrieked in excitement,  so the driver went for it all the way, showing off his dune-bashing skills...

A thatched camp in the desert...

A government camp in the distance...

These dunes are amazing...

Sculpted by the winds, the dunes look amazing...

Dusk is approaching...

Stopping for the engines to cool off a bit before we proceed to the camp for dinner...

Pausing to appreciate the beauty...
