"I'll Meet You Under The Clocks"

And finally I got out of my hotel to see and explore Melbourne city for the next few hours.
Just as I stepped out of the hotel, I got to sample the amazing Victorian architecture of Melbourne. The architecture here is characterized by juxtaposition of old and new architecture. Melbourne has preserved a good number of Victorian buildings. Town planning has been very intelligently done - the city centre has around 60 buildings taller than 100 metres - these modern glass and steel contraptions have deliberately been set back from thoroughfares and streets to preserve historic architectural facade. That gives the main street a very European city.

Waiting at the tram station on Flinders Street...

It's a nippy afternoon...

There comes my heritage tram...

Highrises on South Bank...

St Paul's Cathedral on the junction of Swanston Street and Flinders Street, diagonally opposite Flinders Street Station, St Paul's Cathedral is built on the same very site where the first public Christian service in Melbourne was conducted in 1835. Construction of the cathedral started in 1880 and was completed in 1891...

And this is the real beauty of Melbourne...

The Flinders Street Station which was completed in 1909, and is a iconic symbol of Melbourne, with its prominent dome, arched entrance, tower and clocks.
This classic building gave rise to the Melburnian idiom "I'll meet you under the clocks" refers to the row of clocks above the main entrance, which indicate the time-tabled time of departure for trains...

And this is Melbourne's busiest pedestrian crossings...
Indeed, Melbourne doesn't stop delighting me - I've been here only for few hours and I am in love with the city...
