Pa Diuxi, Oaxaca!

A short while back, I landed at Xoxocotlán International Airport of Oaxaca after a smooth 45 minute flight from Mexico City. And I must say the Emraer ERJ190 is incredibly smooth.
We took off from Mexico City on a cloudy evening, and the captain expected turbulence on the way, but despite being small, the Embraer handled the turbulence very well. And now that's one incredible product to come out of Brazil!

A view of Ciudad de México - Mexico City was in the 1980s the largest city in the world!

Thick clouds on the way...

This sight reminds me of home - Mumbai!

That's Oaxaca in the distance...

The city is officially called Oaxaca de Juárez, and is the capital and largest city of the Mexican state of the same name, Oaxaca. Nestled in the foothills of the legendary Sierra Madre  mountains, Oaxaca was a cradle of Mesoamerican civilizations - the Zapotecs, the Mixtecs and the Aztecs, until traces of their rich heritage were decimated by barbaric acts of the Spanish...

Oaxaca derives its name from the Nahuatl name for the place, Huaxyacac - Nahuatl is the language of the Aztecs. Huaxyacac was Hispanicized to Guajaca, later spelt as Oaxaca. The suffix "de Juárez" was added later to honor of Benito Juárez, who was a native of Oaxaca state...

And today Oaxaca is home to a number of World Heritage sites - remnants of the Mesoamerican era. These attractions draw in a lot of tourists into the city making it a big attraction for tourists...

A smooth landing ensued and as we disembarked, my fellow passengers crowded around a very attractive lady for selfies and autographs. I was told she was a popular Mexican television star.
And tonight, I descended into Oaxaca in the company of stars, and why wouldn't I say in Zapotec - Pa Diuxi, Oaxaca!
