Brah Bisnulok - The Realm Of The Divine... Part II



And we continue deeper into the Angkor Wat temple, heading towards the 65-metre tall central shrine that symbolises Mount Meru...




The legends that surround the massive construction say that the temple complex was constructed in one day by a divine architect...

With the advent o Buddhism in the region, the temple was converted into a house of Buddhist worship and traces of that can be seen everywhere...


The statue of Buddha is indeed massive...









The detailing in the bas reliefs is amazing...











Apparently this are verses from scriptures in Pali script...


It was sad to see how the temple had been ransacked...



But some sculptures and carvings survived...



And we departed with a sense of intrigue, a sense of wonder - wonder about human enterprise, capability and endeavour - a spirit that brought to fruition one of the greatest construction I have seen...
