Serene Trấn Quốc...

On our tour around Hanoi, our next stop was the legendary Chùa Trấn Quốc or the Trấn Quốc Pagoda, which is located on a small island on the Tây Hồ lake or the West Lake of Hanoi...

Small shrines surround the main pagoda...

The shrine basks in the glow of the setting sun...

Deities inside the shrine...

And we listen intently to our guide...

Trấn Quốc is the oldest pagoda in the city and is nearly 1500 years old. It was originally constructed in the sixth century during the reign of Emperor Lý Nam Đế, The red pagoda is one of the main parts of the Trấn Quốc temple as it holds the important monk's ashes. The pagodas are red to signify luck and prosperity.

A pretty passageway by the lake...

Fishing...

And our next stop is the Hoàn Kiếm Lake...
